How do you pack a sea bag with everything listed?
You can find helpful tutorials on the Cadet portion of the website. Also, your fire team leader will be a great resource to you. Word to the wise, once you get to RTIL (Boot Camp), they empty your sea bag to check for contraband. They literally dump your sea bag and then you have to repack it quickly for the next recruit in line. Pack your boots at the bottom. You may want to consider rubber banding your clothes or using large storage bags to contain items such as socks and undergarments.
Is there transportation provided to get to RTIL?
The unit rents a 12 passenger van to carpool recruits. This costs anywhere from $20-$40 depending on how many are riding. It is the parent's responsibility to pick up their recruit in Illinois after graduation. You won't want to miss the Graduation Ceremony. Don't forget your tissues!
I'm worried my child won't be able to handle it. It's his/her first time away from home.
This is a difficult question to answer because every recruit is different. It's important for recruits to prepare for Boot Camp. We strongly suggest attending Flagship at Camp Ripley before hand. This will be a good indication as to whether or not your recruit is ready to leave home and succeed at Boot Camp. Recruits also need to be prepared to show respect to authority and have a strong work ethic (not afraid to push themselves physically and socially). Most importantly, remind your recruit that they CAN do it. When my son was preparing to go, my thoughts were everywhere and so were his. I just kept telling him that I knew he could do it and then I kept my fears and concerns to myself. Lean on other Polaris parents. We are here to walk you through it too mom and dad!
